Health & Career Education 8, version 01 (Print)

Health & Career Education 8 meets all the learning outcomes of the Ministry of Education's IRP.

In Health & Career Education 8 students identify personal attributes and consider a range of options and situations related to school, their daily lives and future careers. Students also identify factors that affect health decisions and their consequences on short-term and long-term health.

The modules and sections may be taken in any order, as each is independent of the others. The course is designed to take advantage of current resources and to promote information and communications technology skills. There are no tests for this course.

HCE 8 includes a Home Facilitator's Guide to support parents and guardians in extending and enriching the curriculum at home. Please note that there are topics in the health module that some students and parents may feel more comfortable addressing at home. If this is the case, parents should talk to their school about alternate delivery. More information about this can be found at http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/policy/

The Home Facilitator's Guide provides parents and guardians with information they need to help their student work through Health and Career Education 8.

Overviews of topics, activities and resources for each lesson are offered, as well as sug gestions for extension and enrichment to encourage personal relevance and home- school-community connections. Throughout lessons, students are encouraged to discuss topics and ideas with their home facilitator. The guide helps parents put these topics in context with the overall learning outcomes of the course.

Please Note: There are topics in Module 2, It's Your Health, that some parents may be uncomfortable with. Parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the module before their student begins it.
