Science 9 takes students on a scientific discovery trip from subatomic particles all the way to the vastness of space. All learning outcomes from the Ministry of Education's 2006 IRP are addressed in Science 9. Science 9 is available in print or online delivery formats. Science 9 is designed for self-paced individual learners or for teacher reference. All course components use modular instruction, projects, guided practice, and assessments (both formal and informal) to engage the student.
Online students have access to interactive multimedia components, while print based students may access them through a companion CD-ROM. A list of helpful websites is available on the course website, although these links are not required for course completion.
Each of the four Science 9 modules has a test and project. Teachers may choose to assign the module project in lieu of the tests, which allows for more assessment and instructional flexibility.
Science 9 students are encouraged to use the Science Orientation Skills (SOS) Package. This package introduces key concepts such as scientific literacy, methodology, and safety. It also outlines guidelines and examples of lab reports, research strategies and formulas. The package is available in both print and online formats. It can be accessed in pdf or HTML format from the multimedia CD, or ordered in a print booklet.
