This course was written to meet the Mathematics Grade 7 IRP released in 2007. The course builds on concepts from previous grades and introduces new skills. Skills include: addition and subtraction of integers as well as fractions, solving linear equations, performing geometric constructions, transformations in the Cartesian plane, calculating and interpreting measures of central tendency, and problem solving in all content areas.
Mathematics 7 consists of seven modules with two to three sections in each module. Students send in an assignment at the end of each section.
This course features a pretest at the beginning of each section. Students have the option of completing this pretest if they feel that they have a strong understanding of the concepts in the section. Another key feature of the course is the inclusion of "Thinking Strategies" and "Thinking Space." The first module explains and models several strategies that students can use to interact more fully with the text. Each lesson throughout the course contains a space along the side of the page where students are prompted to use those strategies as they read.
