BC Mine Blaster Certifications

Blasting is a regular part of mining activities. As required by the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC (Code), anyone who blasts must have a BC Mine Blaster Certification. This applies to workers who perform, manage, or supervise blasters.

The purpose of the BC Mine Blaster Certification Program is to test the blaster’s technical knowledge and abilities and their awareness of their regulatory responsibilities as a BC Mine blaster, as set out in the Code, the federal blasting legislation and accompanying regulations. To get certified, a person must pass two exams and complete an interview.

BC Mine Surface Blaster - 1st Class (Urban or Close Proximity) 7540006337 N/A $100.00EA

A BC Mines Surface Blaster 1st Class Certification allows you to perform all general surface mine blasting operations in all zones.

The certification process includes two online exams (one regulatory, one technical) that you must pass before scheduling a face-to-face interview. You have three attempts to pass each exam and you must pass the regulatory exam before taking the technical exam. Once you pass both exams, you'll set up a face-to-face interview with a Mine Inspector. You must provide the following documents: a completed and signed Application for BC Mines Blaster Certification, Proof of ID, and a criminal record check.

The online component provides:

  • An overview of all BC Mines Blaster Certifications.
  • Access to supporting resources including videos about safety and blasting on BC Mines sites (e.g., magazines, care and handling of explosives, guarding, and transportation safety).
  • Access to relevant exam(s).
  • Access to a BC Mines Application Form and information on how to set up a face-to-face interview with a Mine Inspector, including the documentation you're required to bring with you.
